| Reviews of the New CD -
Review by: Lucky Boyd, My Texas Music
Okay, I’ll give you the bad news first. This release is
only six cuts. It leaves you wishing it was a twenty-cut release. Yes, The
Hanshaws are that entertaining, and yes, this disc, technically an EP, is
that good. Surrounded by top-rated musicians and with guest appearances by
Redd Volkaert and Cindy Cashdollar, David and Kelly Hanshaw offer up what is
hopefully only the first of a long line of fantastic country music releases.
David pens four of the six gems and the pair cover two classics. The opening
cut is flawlessly arranged and performed and sets the tone for the album.
"Joined at the Heart" is a love song from David to Kelly and is probably the
least traditional of the disc. Still, the song serves to round out the
demonstration of the outstanding songwriting and amazing talent assembled
for this project. The duo’s cover of "Ring of Fire" is a beautifully
orchestrated modernization of the Carter/Cash classic. Both David and Kelly
have voices perfectly suited for the genre and are synergistic when blended.
The best cut is "Window" which David wrote as therapy over the loss of his
father. The song’s mourning is shrouded in homage to an indefatigable man
who obviously influenced the younger Hanshaw immeasurably. In honor of her
own father, Kelly serenades her departed parent with his favorite, "Mammas
Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys." As an overview, the entire
project is a selfless tribute to those who have meant the most to The
Hanshaws. In doing so, the duo has created a lasting memorial to friends and
family. Here’s the good news: they’ve done it while creating a stunning
album. Everything came together on this one. My only advice to The Hanshaws
is give us more, give us more!

| What Others Have To Say about David & Kelly: |
|
|
| "Their years of performing together
have perfected an amazingly tuneful unison; David and Kelly's harmonies
are absolutely incredible!" (Pam
Herndon - Proprietor JP Hops House) |

|
"...Kelly's country lilt with David's contemporary
edge produces a hard-to-beat team with a dynamic blend of expressive
harmonies, comparable to those typically found only in families." - [Chuck Graham - Arizona Daily Star] |

|
"...They have a refreshing sound of their own,
not to mention a lot of local popularity. The harmonic
blends are a result of voices seasoned over the years, and this
experience has enabled them to take a highly overplayed song and give it
new life by making it their own. The vocals from Kelly
Hanshaw are exquisite for the Country Genre." - [Jason Vosu - Tucson Citizen, Entertainment
Magazine) |
