We are back from a trip out to Nashville where we did some recording.
These new songs won't be on the upcoming CD... but, they will be available
soon. We had some fantastic musicians on the session with recording
and touring credits with the likes of Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Asleep at
the Wheel, Waylon Jennings, Shooter Jennings, Delbert McClinton, T. Graham
Brown, Kansas, Restless Heart, and more! Needless to say they sounded
fantastic and we were excited to be there with them. Our engineer for
the session was great too and really focused on getting the best vocal out
of us. We love this guy! We have put some photos up.
Check 'em out. |

The CD project has been mastered!! Mastering was done by Hank Williams
at MasterMix in Nashville. Just have to get photos and artwork.... so
it shouldn't be too long now. (lets hope) |

We did it again.... another Open Mic tour (3rd Annual) in Honor of Kelly's
Birthday. The tour took us to Armadillo Palace, Cosmos Cafe, The Dosey
Doe, Blanco's, and JP Hops House. We tried to get a good snubbing at
the Mucky Duck, but they snubbed us before we could even get on stage, as
the list was closed before they even started! We stayed for about 4
performers and then had a better idea of coming home and going to bed.
We also tried to make it to JoSal's open mic at the Bayou Sports bar, but we
didn't have the times right and got there after they had closed... darn it.
Check out the photos.

We have now completed our
2nd Annual Houston Open Mic Tour! Man, it's a good thing we only do this
once a year...we are still tired.
The Tour was launched at the Hops House on Sunday,
8/20 and we had a great time. Tuesday we were revved-up and headed out to
hit 3 more open mics that night. We started at Cosmo's Cafe
for our first open mic at this venue. We saw some familiar faces and met
some new folks. It was a real friendly group! Thanks to Mark Zeus for
hosting at Cosmos. We then headed off to the other two open mics.
Unfortunately, they did not work out. That was a pretty disappointing end
of an evening, but Oh well, the tour was to continue the next day..... And
so, Wednesday (Kelly's Birthday) we traveled into town for the Open Mic at
Blanco's. Now that was fun!! Blanco's feels like home to
us... and takes us back to our earlier honky-tonk performing days. Larry
Sepulvado was there with his band hosting the evening. The band included
John on Bass, Jeff Hoofard on Drums, Willie B. on guitar and Dennis Challmam
on Steel. Larry and the band did a great set of music and then the open mic
began. In honor of Kelly's birthday, Willie B. had a birthday cake ready
for her behind the bar. How SWEET -- Thanks Willie!! TC Smythe and Gary
Taylor (of Smythe & Taylor) were there as well and we twisted TC's arm to
join us on harmonies. A big thank you to TC! Among the many other folks we
saw were: Mark Zeus, Roy Shafer, Tracy Park, Patti Guyer and Glenace
Eastham. Also a special thanks to Steve Smith at Blanco's for a fun
evening and the flaming birthday drink for Kelly!! We
stayed until closing.
We had so much fun Wednesday night that we ended up
staying home Thursday.
Friday and Saturday were regular gig nights - we were at Texas Tradition and
Gabby's.
We finally landed the Open Mic tour back at the
Hops House for Jim and Pam's annual "Spudstock" event.
They had a great turnout for this theme party. Most everyone was dressed in
hippie attire from Woodstock and there were all kinds of potato
dishes and dressed up potatoes for their Mr. Potato Head birthday party,
that explains the term "spudstock". It was too much fun!! Also, Susan
Gibson was there from an earlier songwriting event at the Hops House.
Susan is the writer of the song "Wide Open Space," recorded by the Dixie
Chicks. Susan hung out all night and even got up and did a few songs during
the open mic, as well. She is a fabulous singer as well as songwriter. It
was quite an honor to get up and sing for Susan. We had TC join us for
harmonies and we did an extra special rendition of "Helplessly Hoping."
Check out some of the photos from
our web site (click on the photos link)
Now we are resting....until next year!!
The Hanshaws are off for the next two weeks trying
to get some studio time in.... we'll see ya soon!

In honor of
Kelly's birthday, we are out and about doing our 2nd Annual Week-Long Open
Mic Tour of Houston! We launched at The Hops House this past Sunday
and had lots of fun.... met some new folks and saw old friends we had not
seen in a while.
And the tour continues.....
Tonight we'll start off at Cosmos Cafe for our
first time at this open mic, then to Sans one's and The Hops House, depending
how the scheduling goes. Wednesday is Kelly's birthday and we will be at the
Open Mic at Blanco's and then probably over to the Vintage Bar.
Thursday we plan on hitting JoSal's open mic at The First T bar.
Sunday - Hops House "Spud Stock" open mic. (tentative - if we are not too
pooped and Kelly hasn't done anything to embarrass herself... it could
happen)
We'll try and get some photos posted.

We are still
on a high today from our recording session at Bismeaux Studios in Austin
yesterday. Yep, we were in the studio with the fabulous Telemaster,
Redd Volkaert. We were also able to include Cindy Cashdollar on the
session for some extra fine dobro tracks. Like kids in a candy shop we
watched the magic. Redd recorded his Tele on four of our tracks and
Cindy added dobro for two of the tracks. Of course, they are awesome!
As it turns out, after visiting with Redd for a while, we discovered that we
were out in New Mexico playing some of the same spots and he knows some of
the same great players that we met on the road. A small musical world
it is. The CD is moving right along. Stay tuned for information
about the big CD release party! (click here
to check out the photos taken during the session.) |

We have the
basic tracking done for our song "The Night." And, it sounds great!!
Kenny Royster in Nashville produced the basic tracks and we are very excited
to get the rest of the instruments and final vocal finished up. We are
currently working with Kenny on 3 more songs and they should be completed in
the next two weeks. Larry Baird is producing two songs for us as well,
"Robbin Trains" and "Window." Not only is he producing the basic
tracks, he is also performing on them! We are very excited to
have Larry on these tracks. Larry is very well known session man and
he appears on all of the cuts on Rascal Flatt's album "Melt." Yes, we
are excited. |

It's our
anniversary... 22 years! We went out and celebrated by having dinner
at Churrasco's and then to see
Redd Volkaert and
Heybale for their first
Houston appearance at the Continental Club. It was a great show.
Of course we got some pictures with Redd and had a nice visit with him.
For those of you who may not be familiar with Redd, he is a HOT guitar man. Redd toured
with Merle Haggard for years and can also be heard on Brad Paisley's Mud on
the Tires album as well as others. We are also working out having Redd lay some guitar down on our CD project.
Will keep you posted. (click here to see

Yes, we survived Hurrican Rita!
We worked our you know whats off preparing for 165 MPH winds at our home.
It took us two days to find the materials and supplies and two more days to
board up the windows, make room in our garage for vehicles, trim branches
away from the house etc... whew we are tired!!! Thankfully, as it
turned out for us, we received some blustery winds and not enough rain to
stay wet on the ground. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who were
not so lucky. |

Some of you may know that we lost a
very special person in our lives. On July 8, 2005, Kelly's father, Jim
Copeland, passed away. As a little girl, he would encourage her to
sing for company always directing in his arm chair to sing louder.
Kelly required a lot of coaxing when it came to singing because she was so
shy. But, her Dad never let up.
