David and Kelly joined forces in Tucson, AZ while both were
working the night club circuit in their own bands. Soon after teaming up, the two married
and went "on the road" playing large dance hall venues which took them from
Arizona to Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming and all over New Mexico.
While on the road, the couple spent
about a year and a half working a nightly house-gig in Santa Fe, New Mexico
and were invited to appear on an album project which was a
compilation of select local artists. The album received rave reviews from
the local press and strong regional
air play.
David and Kelly have opened shows for
national acts such as Vern Gosdin, Mel McDaniel, Commander Cody, David Frizzell, Johnny Paycheck,
Mickey Gilley and Johnny Lee, Sammi Smith, Dave Dudley, Moe Bandy, Jerry
Reed, and the
Late Joe Maphis (King of the Strings) and Roselee. During their shows with Joe and Roselee Maphis,
David had the distinct honor of simultaneously playing with Joe on his famed
double-neck guitar.
David and Kelly were selected
to appear on the Nashville Network television show, "You Can Be A Star" and
were winners with their performance of "That's How You Know When Love's
Right."
Later the couple came off the
road and moved back to Tucson for several years where they continued
performing in bands around the city.
In 1994, David and Kelly relocated to Houston, TX for a
career opportunity. However, the new obligations overshadowed their
musical pursuits, which resulted in a musical hiatus. It
was about 8 years later that a guitar case was re-opened and the couple started
back into their music by joining the HFBSA (Houston/Fort Bend Songwriters
Assoc.) and working on their original songs.
David and Kelly recently
started performing again as "The Hanshaws" in an acoustic duo format.
Performing as a duo is an adjustment from performing in bands, but they are
looking forward to lots of fun. (Kelly will tell you she is looking forward
to getting better on the guitar... No pressure or anything.)
Their recently released CD garnered the duo a nomination as the "Vocal
Duo/Group of The Year" by the Academy of Texas Music at the 2008 Texas Music
Awards. The CD is already receiving air-play on local radio as well as
over seas! Purchase the CD on-line.
